TechSmith is known for their excellent applications such as SnagIt and Camtasia for screen capturing, screen shooting and video editing. Jing is a free and easy to use software by TechSmith that does a dual job: It allows you to capture image as well as video of your screen.
Jing has a bright yellow colored icon that resembles the Sun. On launching the application, a small sun appears on your screen which you can place anywhere. You get to choose from three options that come in the form of three rays emerging from the sun: Capture, History and More. If you select capture, a crosswire comes up on the screen that lets you select the are of your screen you want to capture. It also shows the dimensions of the area that you select. If you want to select the whole screen, you need to click just once anywhere on the screen. You can also select a single window/application opened on your screen. As you hover over the open windows, it automatically detects the entire window without you having to select the area. Neat and nice! Post selection, you can go for either an image or a video.
After capturing the image, it gives you simple yet useful tools for editing. You can add comments, show arrows or grab the attention of the viewer by highliting an area if you like to. If you want to capture a video, it gives you several controls over your recording such as or enable/disable mic, etc. The PRO gives you advanced features like uploading video on YouTube, sharing on Viddler and Facebook, etc. Also, it offers different codecs (SWF and MPEG- 4) for video files to make them compact. Compact videos captured by Jing can be uploaded really fast. You can also use webcam to add more personal touch to your video.
Once done, save it on your system or on the clipboard and guess what! You can immediately share this media through IM or gmail to various social media sites. Your media will be hosted on screencast.com and a URL would be generated. You can share this URL with anybody and bingo! you are done. Jing saves your time by letting you get rid of multiple upload-downloads.
Accidently deleted a captured file from your computer? Don’t worry, if your media was recent enough, you can get it from the ‘History‘ menu. This can be very useful feature to keep your recent captures handy.
Let your Mac OS screen shine with the ‘Jing Sun‘, express better and faster and have a bright day!
